Rare Early China Head Doll w Spit Curls on Side, Comb and Snood
$1,200.00
Such an unusual, rare early China Head Doll. I finally found her pictured in the Coleman Encyclopedia on page 248. She is also in a color photograph a few pages prior to page 248. I do not know her maker and the book does not indicate who. made her.
She is approximately 20" tall. I believe her body was replaced a long time ago, but feel her feet and possibly her arms are original to her. She is so unusual in having spit curls curling to the sides of her face before being swept up on the sides to a comb in the back. Under the comb, is her snood. I have never seen another china head doll like her! Single stroke eyebrows over her blue eyes and a thin nose that give her an aristocratic look! There is pit marks on her face as you can see in the pictures and a small dot on her nose where the shiny finish is not there. There are some black lines on the side of her shoulder plate, but they are not cracks at all and must have been there in the making. I have checked her over carefully with a black light and there are no repairs or damages.
I could not get her dress undone to show her complete body.
She is dressed in vintage clothing, most likely made in the 1960s. She won a red ribbon at the 26th Annual UFDC Convention held in Milwaukee Wisconsin in 1975.
A rare and beautiful lady ready to have a place of honor in a China Head Doll Collection.
